“Big Bounce and Multiverses in Quantum Cosmology” by M.E. Hogan
The study of cosmology encompasses the origin, structure, evolution, and ultimate fate of the Universe, from the Big Bang to the distant future. Quantum theory, however, says that the Big Bang cannot be the true beginning, and that our universe must have existed even before this time. Matt helped us explore this tantalizing possibility: what happened before the Big Bang?

“What’s Up With Psychiatry? An Outsider’s Experience of Working in the Field” by Tim Ryan
Many nerds have a sneaking suspicion that psychiatry is somehow not as scientifically rigorous as other fields of medicine. He started working as a research assistant in a university psychiatry department three years ago and being on the inside has more than confirmed that suspicion.

“Isotopes of ET” by Troy Bernier
Water isn’t just H2O. Isotopes are variants of elements with different neutrons. There are over 250 stable isotope varieties. Several make up the water molecule. Mr. Bernier discussed the different isotopes that make up this significant cycle that contribute to our planet’s biosphere.

As a basketball player with 9 years professional experience, Dre shared how some embarrassing American defeats set the stage for the globalization of basketball. They were our bad losses, but the world’s gain.

Rape, Drugs, and Pornography: A Story of Human Trafficking in Miami”  by attorney Roy Altman
United States v. Lavont Flanders, Jr. and Emerson Callum‘ was a serial rapeand pornography case that spanned five years, involved more than 50 victims, combined the efforts of at least 10 federal and local agencies, and represents the first federal case of its kind in the United States. Altman shared his experience in prosecuting these villains.

Personalities in Math History and the Mathematical Experience
by math badass Chelsey Hoff
When people are asked to describe their experience with mathematics, responses are typically polarized. Hoff will attempt to describe the nature of mathematics as a language, philosophy, and creative endeavor closer in relation to the humanities than the empirical sciences. She will discuss some of the eccentric personalities in math history and try to answer the question: is mathematics created or discovered?
